Saturday, November 9 was the RepYourAct competition at 444 Highland Avenue. The competition consisted of 4 rounds: monologue, improv, scene work, and interviews.
Monologue scores weighed the most out of all the rounds and was limited to 1 minute and 30 seconds.
For improv, everyone was placed in groups at random and on stage, the judges announced the prompt.
Scene work consisted of randomized group pairs, roughly 20 minutes of preparation, and performing it on stage. After the first 3 rounds, eliminations took place.
Those who were the top 3 adults and the top 3 children were interviewed by the judges. After the interview section, the speaker announced which adults and children where they placed.
I did not anticipate to place let alone win second place of the competition. Over the past months, I told myself that this has to be for fun and I should not think about winning whatsoever. By November, I was completely comfortable not winning because I knew that I tried my best. When they announced my number (number 3) I was in SHOCK.
It was not because I doubt my abilities, but because I have been told "No" for so long that I have gotten accustomed to not winning and not being picked. It is a blessing because it allows me to have fun with my work and prevents me from getting nervous. But it is also a curse because I am second guessing myself and my abilities and I have to remind myself that I am talent enough. I am so blessed and grateful to Ms. Lauren Hunt and the judges for seeing my potential.
Second place prizes include a photo shoot with MyStudioKids, a part in a movie directed by Bobby and Renee People, a self-tape with Audition with Shay Mack, and a cash prize
