In the past two weeks, I have been volunteering with Open Hand Atlanta. I started volunteering again because I felt like I could do more with my spare time, and serving the community is the best way to fill spare time.

Open Hand Atlanta is a non-profit food service organization prepares, packs and delivers over 5,000 healthy meals each day throughout metro-Atlanta for those who might otherwise go without

"Open Hand Atlanta believes everyone deserves access to proper nutrition. No matter your age. No matter where you call home. And no matter your health condition."

Open Hand Atlanta has many flexible volunteer times and services throughout the day. For more information about Open Hand and how to volunteer, visit their website at www.openhandatlanta.org

Over this past weekend, my co-delegates, Miss Black Unity, Miss Black Persistence, and Miss Black Empowerment, and I participated in the international Trailblazer Awards. Alongside our etiquette coach AKA's Mrs. Carol Rey, and MBAA's Director Ms. Miranda Childers, we networked, assisted, and dined with the coordinated and presenters of the International Trailblazers Awards.

The international Trailblazers Awards held it's 11th Annual Awards at the Commerce Club at 191 Peachtree Street. Honorees include Gary Hayes, aka Gary With Da Tea, of the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, AKA's very own Judge Ashleigh Parker Dunston of Wake County District Court, DeKalb County Tax Commissioner Irvin Johnson, and Sherrexcia "Rexy" Rolle the owner of the first and only black female owned airline Western Air.

Throughout the night, the delegates and I worked alongside the coordinators to help the night run smoothly. Miss Black Unity and Miss Black Persistence assisted with presenting the awards. Miss Black Empowerment assisted with the silent auction, and I (Miss Black Creativity) assisted with the interviews with Mrs. Veronica Waters of Kiss104.7FM radio.

Overall, it was a very successful and humbling night. I hope to participate in more events like this in the future. Thank you to everyone in conjunction with the International Trailblazer Awards for allowing us to be apart of your special night.
